ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION

16th January 2018

Sir Nicholas Soames: To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, if he will assess the adequacy of UK biosecurity legislation.

Dr Thérèse Coffey, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Environment: The UK’s wide ranging body of biosecurity legislation is based on EU requirements for plant and animal health. Leaving the EU provides an opportunity to review that legislation and consider introducing measures more suited to the UK’s biosecurity concerns.
